From November 27th to 29th, the third tropical medicine summit of the “Belt and Road” Tropical Medicine Alliance and the third annual conference of the Alliance for Prevention and Control of Imported Tropical Diseases in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was jointly sponsored by Hainan Medical University and Zhongshan School of Medicine of Sun Yat-Sen University and held in Haikou, Hainan Province. Guizhou Medical University was invited by Hainan Medical University to join the “Belt and Road” Tropical Medicine Alliance. Luo Peng, deputy secretary of the University Party committee and president of the University, was invited to attend the conference, accompanied by relevant comrades from the International Exchange and Cooperation Office.
On November 27th, the Alliance held the third standing council meeting of the first council, and Luo Peng attended the meeting. At the meeting, Guizhou Medical University was voted to officially join of the “Belt and Road” Tropical Medicine Alliance. On November 28th, Luo Peng attended the opening ceremony meeting as an important guest. In the afternoon, he attended the subforum of new era public health education reform and presided over the meeting.
Guizhou Medical University's joining the “Belt and Road” Tropical Medicine Alliance is of great importance to the research on tropical medicine and the prevention of tropical diseases in countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”. The University will further carry out exchanges and cooperation with universities at home and abroad to improve the level of tropical disease research and the medical service system.
Background of the Alliance: the “Belt and Road” Tropical Medicine Alliance was established in Haikou in 2018 and held its first tropical medicine forum.The Alliance is a non-profit and non-corporate international academic exchange organization initiated by Hainan Medical University and jointly established by 103 higher education institutions, medical institutions, scientific research and public health institutions in 30 countries and regions along the Belt and Road to actively respond to the call of WHO to strengthen the prevention and research on tropical diseases and enhance the cooperation in terms of tropical medicine in the countries and regions along the Belt and Road.
