Our Students Was Awarded Honorable Mention in 2020 American College Students' Mathematical Contest In Modeling

The 2020 American College Students' Mathematical Contest In Modeling/Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling has revealed its results. In the globally rampant COVID-19 pandemic, under the new rule that the proportion of Meritorious Winner (M) and Honorable Mention (H) shall be halved, two teams (6 students) led by Huang Wenzhu, Deputy Director of Mathematics Teaching and Research Office of School of Biology & Engineering of GMU, have won a Honorable Mention award and a Successful Participant award. This is the first time that Guizhou Medical University has participated in international mathematical modeling contest and achieved a breakthrough of zero.

Sponsored by COMAP, MCM began in 1985 and ICM began in 2000. and it is the most influential mathematical modeling contest in the world. Participants use mathematical thinking to analyze and solve practical problems, improve their team spirit and exercise their English scientific paper writing skills. A total of 20,956 teams from more than 20 countries and regions including the United States, China, Germany, Canada, Britain and Australia were attracted to participate in the contest in 2020.

The training of the participating students started in March 2019. They overcame the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and many difficulties to lay a good foundation for final excellent results through online learning and under the careful guidance of the instructor. The contest fully demonstrated our students' solid mathematical application ability and determination and perseverance to be enterprising, reflected the outstanding professional ethics and work style of our teachers, manifested the spirit of research and exploration of our teachers and students on international stage, effectively promoted the deep integration of mathematical science and other disciplines, and created a good atmosphere for the cultivation of research-oriented medical talents.
