The 105th American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress (2019) was held in San Francisco, USA on October 27, 2019, which is the most influential international clinical surgery conference in the world. Professor Zuo Shi from the Affiliated Hospital of GMU was admitted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) to recognize his positive contributions in the field of surgery (especially the hepatobiliary surgery) and in the promotion of the development of surgery in Guizhou. He is the first FACS in Guizhou Province, which also signifies that the surgeons of Guizhou are becoming international and gaining international recognition.

FACS is admitted strictly. One can be admitted as a FACS only after recommended by six Fellows and subjected to rigorous application, review and interview. It is reported that there are a total of more than 120 surgical experts in different fields admitted as Fellows of the American College of Surgeons across the country including Hong Kong and Macau. It is a symbol of international recognition for a surgeon to be admitted as a FACS, which means that he/she has passed the rigorous assessment and review of the American College of Surgeons in the education and training, professional qualifications, surgical skills and ethics of surgeons, played a leadership role in a certain professional field of surgery in the world and made positive contributions to medical services. A grand Convocation Ceremony was held for the 1,193 newly admitted Fellows from around the world on the evening of October 27, 2019, including 14 surgeons from mainland China.
