GMU held a Series of Activities to Celebrate the National Day

GMU held a national flag-raising ceremony at its south campus on the morning of October 1st, 2019 to warmly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, further motivate the patriotism enthusiasm of the majority of the faculty, medical staff and students, and deeply promote the education under the theme of “do not forget the original intention and keep in mind the mission”. The leaders of GMU including Liang Guiyou, Zhan Yong and Tian Xiaobin attended the ceremony and Zhan Yong presided over the ceremony.

The flag guard of GMU marched proudly with vigorous steps to guard the sacred national flag to the platform at the beginning of the ceremony. With the magnificent March of the Volunteers, a bright five-star red flag rose up slowly. The entire staff saluted the flag solemnly and attentively in a spirited and neat posture.

Liang Guiyou, President of GMU, gave a speech, with the five-star red flag fluttering high in the sky. He pointed out that the great Communist Party of China has led the people of all ethnic groups of the country to achieve remarkable achievements in the 70 years since New China was founded, from “poverty and blankness” to “the second largest economy in the world”, from “insufficient food and clothing” to “a well-off society”, from “atomic and hydrogen bombs and man-made satellite” to “moon landing in the aerospace”, from “deep-sea manned submersible Jiaolong” to “aircraft carrier launching”, from “reform and opening up” to “the Belt and Road Initiative”, and from “the handover of Hong Kong and Macao” to “cruising in the South China Sea”. The Chinese nation has won the respect of the world with its heroic posture of standing up, getting rich and becoming stronger, and strengthened the confidence of the Chinese people in the country and the nation.

With the help of the vigorous development of various undertakings in the motherland, GMU has made great progress in the development of various undertakings in recent years. He has emphasized that in the new historical journey, the entire staff of GMU shall be united more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, and guided by Xi Jinping’s thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, to establish firmly the “consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment”, remain firmly “confident in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics”, and “resolutely maintain the core of General Secretary Xi Jinping's Party Central Committee and the core status of the Communist Party of China, as well as the authority and the centralized and unified leadership of the Party Central Committee”. Meantime, we shall also keep in mind the original intention and the mission to adhere to innovation and act with greater determination and more confidence, a more pragmatic style and a firmer and more effective action, in order to build a brighter future of GMU and feel grateful to the motherland with greater achievements.


While presiding over the ceremony, Zhan Yong pointed out that GMU would strive to build itself into a first-class and high-level medical university in the West China with obvious characteristics and domestic and international influence, actively integrate itself into the tide of economic and social development in the country and Guizhou, the mainstream of the construction of high-level medical universities across the country and the development trend of first-class disciplines in higher medical education nationwide, cultivate high-quality medical talents with both political integrity and professional competence in the innovative operation, constantly draw up a new blueprint for medical education and medical and health services in Guizhou, and make the higher medical education satisfactory to the people.

The dragon and lion dance team of GMU brought wonderful performances to all the staff at the ceremony, the teachers and students sang Today is Your Birthday to celebrate the 70 anniversary of the New China, and finally the ceremony ended in the chorus of the entire staff of Ode to the Motherland.

Subsequently, the teachers and students of GMU watched the live broadcast of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China at the north and south campuses.
