GMU Students Win Awards in 2016 China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling

According to the result of 2016 China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling(CUMCM) issued in the official website, GMU students won two national second-prizes, one provincial first-prize, three provincial second-prizes and two provincial third-prizes.


 

CUMCM is a national event held annually in China since 1992. During the three-day contest, teams of up to three undergraduate students investigate, model, and submit a solution to one of two simulated real-world problems in engineering, management, etc. The aim of the contest is to expose students to the real-world challenges inherent to mathematical modeling and applications, and provide educational (creativity, challenge, etc.) experience unique to problem bare learning. The contest has been influenced by and has also significantly influenced the teaching of mathematical modeling and applications in China. In the 2016 event, there were over 93,000 participants from 33 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Singapore. GMU sent 16 teams to compete in 2016 event and has won national prizes for three years in a row.
